Network Rail and Lambeth Council have arranged a public meeting to allow local residents to let them know how their poor arrangements and bad communication have affected them during the period of the Bridge Closure.

To ensure your complaints are addressed at the meeting use our complaints form to let Network Rail’s community relations team know how the bridge closure has affected you.
The current state of play is that Network Rail do not want to accept legal liability for economic losses suffered by local businesses as a result of the bridge closure. They will consider applications on a case by case basis and as they said at the meeting they will help those worst affected and in imminent danger of going under.
They have previously asked businesses to complete a personal injury compensation claim form, which is obviously ridiculas. They have now agreed to accept an email sent to Rebecca McAra containing a much simpler set of information. I’ve created a page on the blog detailing how to apply for compensation and an electronic version of the form you can use to send it.
I’ve added some new pages to the site that allow you to send complaints about the bridge work directly to Network Rail or Lambeth Council see the complaints page for more information.
I contacted Network Rail yesterday after receiving complaints like the one below:
Network Rail have responded and agreed to provide two security guards, one on either side of the bridge, from 4pm to 4am, until further notice, starting asap.
I spoke with Simon Chapman from Network Rail this afternoon. We had a very constructive discussion, it appears they have finally internalised the problems with the Streatham Bridge Project and have admitted their very obvious failings.
I’m waiting for a written response from them before I can say anything else publicly, but we will get help in some form, and it will happen quickly.
Thank you so much for coming together as a community last night – we left them in no doubt about the severity of the problems we are experiencing and we will make sure they meet their obligations to us.
We had a very successful meeting this evening, around 100 people turned up, much to Network Rail’s chagrin, they appeared genuinely shocked at the response from the local community.

to speak with us. They admitted that they had failed to appreciate the damage the closure would inflict on the local community, that they should have consulted with local businesses, and that they had not adequately followed up on the points raised at the public meeting on the 4th of October. Unfortunately they could not explain why, having identified the serious problems with the project, they failed to appoint a senior manager to deal with the issues and take immediate action to resolve the problems.
